keeping up (appearances)
Well, I have finally, properly updated the gallery of commissions I’ve had done of my characters in various Leusana stories, as well as fixed the list of credits to include updated links for as many of the artists as I could find. It took the better part of an afternoon for a few reasons.
It’s been a while since I had a current gallery because I’ve never properly finished the Leusana page as a whole. Previously when I had a gallery I used thumbnail images and HTML, and the links to the artists were right in the thumbnail captions. Then at some point I tried to switch over to a full CGI scripted gallery, and then I hated it and took that down, but in the meantime I managed to misplace the hand-coded version.
So…. basically I had to put it back together from scratch.
First, because for some reason the gallery’s folder in my current website files didn’t have all the correct art in it, I had to go looking for it. Then I had to track down links to go with some of the art, and in some cases admit I didn’t have any way to find the artist any longer as their URLs no longer worked. And then I found some more, older art and had to repeat the process.
I ended up leaving some art out as well. It doesn’t feel good to do it, but the character designs have shifted a fair bit over the years, especially some things like Robin’s scars. I’ve still kept some of my favorite pieces that have “incorrect” details, because Jiang in leather pants is timeless, classic art.
It was wild to realize I had acquired more than seventy pieces of art for these characters. And on one hand, yeah, it’s been fifteen years, and I’ll often get multiples by the same artist. But that also feels like a lot considering, you know, I haven’t finished the novel.
So… maybe I should get on that, I suppose.
