Hello World (The First weblog.lol Post)

I'm not entirely sure why I'm doing this, except that I enjoyed Weblog Posting Month, and yet I'm still not sure how I feel about blogging. I have been thinking about checking out the whole lol-ecosystem for a few weeks now, though, and so I decided to jump in and see what happens. Got the mastodon set up. Followed some people.

When I'm reading about decluttering and organizing I run into a lot of discussion about the ideal self and how we need to be aware of the difference between that person and our actual self. I can definitely see that in how I hold onto things like books that my ideal self would totally read but my actual self isn't getting around to any time soon. I also see it in how I write, though.

I want to be someone who doesn't need an audience, but I do want an audience, or else I'd be able to post fanfic regardless of whether or not I get comments on it. On the other hand, it's also easy to just rubber duck at my wife for an hour and be done with it, but then I don't remember what I actually was thinking about, and because I'm better at expressing myself in text I feel like I don't actually get into the weeds of what I'm thinking about.

Hell, I was trying to talk to them today about something they'd said yesterday and how it made me decide to go ahead and try this new blog, and I got distracted from what I was saying and off onto another topic like four times. And I can blame at best two of them on my kid, two of them happened when it was just the two of us.

Plenty of times I'll journal on paper, and that will often work just fine when I'm trying to get stuff out of my head, but it doesn't necessarily get resolved when I do that, whereas when I'm typing it's more likely to get worked out into something that has an ending. Similarly, if I'm writing down fiction, I'll put scenes and bits of dialogue in my notebook, but it's the typing up part where they get shuffled around and put together into an actual story.

And hey maybe this'll just be another one of those things I try and then I forget it exists, and that's okay.
