well, I dunno if a closet can be considered bitesized.
I have been breaking my goals down by month and quarter (and even by week for some of them!) so I thought it might be fun to post about that.
(Other, more together people than me are posting 2018 retrospectives and analyses but last year was 47 months long so that's out.)
One of my main focuses for this year is hearthwork (because it's not just housework but it's not exactly homework). I'm pretty sure you've all heard me talk about how I'm interested in the magical and spiritual values of the home and how it's kept. I am not a natural homemaker, like, at all, but everything is better when things go smoothly in the house so I'm... smoothing, I guess.
This month I am working on closets! I would like all of the closets to be better by the end of the month, because frustrating closets make it hard to put things away and otherwise maintain the rest of the apartment. As short term overwhelming as it can be, I am falling back on "pull everything out and start over" because the closets in my apartment are ridiculously deep but not very wide (aside from the bedroom closet, where that would be useful.) To keep it manageable, I'm only doing one closet at a time, taking stuff out as I go, and I'm willing to revise my timetable if one of the closets runs long or anything comes up.
The linen closet was not actually first, since I started the bedroom closet the weekend before the 1st, but it was the first finished. The bedroom closet is what I'd consider finished now, though there are a few things in there that need to be dealt with and not all the laundry is done so there's that to look forward to. Hall closet is next weekend and then the laundry closet. Five boxes have gone out to the thrift donation, three were given away via my local Buy Nothing board, and two pieces of furniture we no longer needed were put in my apartment complex's Magic Spot so they could disappear into someone else's apartment.
(Also we decided to completely re-do Bug's room, flip the bed into a loft to make room for a dollhouse cave underneath it, and source shelves tall enough for her 18" doll furniture. Because why do one ridiculous thing when you can do two?)
I'd intended to make the laundry closet double as a personal/craft space but it's just so cramped in there it's hard to feel like I'd accomplish anything even if I got it cleared. I guess we'll see if I feel differently in a bit, but I've actually been poking at that on and on for months now and not really getting anywhere. For now the plan is to move my stuff out into the Sewing/Craft nook in the dining room, assuming it isn't so much stuff as to be overwhelming, we'll figure out where to go from there.
