Books and Useless, Empty Promises to Self
Books and Useless, Empty Promises to Self
This weekend's project is a second culling of my books. I will not get rid of any book I honestly want to keep, but I will consider whether I honestly want to keep all the books I have. Or at least the ones I have that I can get to. Went through the comics today and decided to part with about half of them. Once again, didn't part with anything I had any honest desire to keep, and still was easily able to say farewell to half.
I absolutely adored, lived for, hung my week upon comics once. It's as if a switch was flipped; suddenly I don't care. I've read a few things from the newsstand at work, but nothing I need passionately to own or even sought out, just things that other people read and left out. Very strange, to suddenly not care.
I did break down and buy two small boxes for organizing purposes. I reached a compromise of sorts with myself. I will use these boxes before I buy any more; none of this buying a room's full of bins rubbish.
(Though I must admit there's a very, very cute pink-and-green-argyle-patterned office set ie. notebooks, note cards in holder, and file folders, marked down to half price at work. If they reach seventy five percent off, I shall be very tempted. If they are marked down to one dollar, I will cave.)
Speaking of work, the only girl I was close to calling a friend there left tonight. I don't know what happened, though she broke down in tears at least once, and then she went on her lunch break and just didn't come back. I hope she just quit, I hate to think something might have happened to her. She'd mentioned wanting to quit, and how she was unhappy.
She's actually the second person I became friendly with in the month I've worked there. The first was the girl who had to move back to Wisconsin on three days notice.
Seems like maybe I'm better off keeping to myself. I promised myself I wouldn't be too friendly with anyone else there. I wonder if turnover's always this high or if I just have impeccable luck.
I am trying to do the whole live-in-the-moment-appreciate-the-time-you-know-someone thing, but it's harder than I thought even when applied to something as simple as someone I've known for a few weeks quitting a job. Attachment really is a bitch.
