Furniture?
Furniture?
Interestingly, I expected working in a bookstore would contribute to my bookwhoring habits and erode my efforts at simplifying. In practice, it's been the opposite (so far, anyway. we'll see what happens in six months.) and I think the reason is because I see the books there every day, I know they're there, I can touch them and read them on my lunch hour and generally it's like the bookstore is an informal extension of my own library.
I have been here seven weeks and my furniture consists of a single shelving unit, a nightstand with drawers, a couple storage bins (one of which serves as my desk) and my bed. I keep thinking I'll get "real furniture" at some mythical point in the future, but unless I find something I love at a goodwill or yard sale… I dunno. I still need to go through some more boxes of books to simplify, and find a more efficient storage solution for clothes than "putting them in a plastic storage bin" but at the moment I'm surprisingly content.
I do still depend overmuch on my computer, but that's because music, much of television, research, some of my socialness, and many of the comics that I either don't buy or have sold are on/accessable via computer. I do need to pare down my CDs/DVDs a bit, but they don't take up that much room. (I have about three cases full of them, and some things such as "October 2001 Mix Of Harddrive Cleaning" can probably go…)
I still have a lot of things but I've given most of these things some thought, and that's a big step for me.
I don't think I have anything left in storage at my parents' house. I could, if I wanted to, actually pull out everything I own, critique it all, look at it and decide what it says about me and my worldly cravings.
Oh geez, that reminds me, I saw a commercial tonight when I was on my break for some new car, and it's called I think "CR V" or something and their tagline is like "Crave". Could they been any more obvious about pandering to a uselessly, senselessly consumerist culture? Gah.
Okay, I've ranted at y'all long enough.
