Flight Rising Clan Lore

Lightseeker Clan

Originally a fae dragon, Rosen was one of two eggs hatched in her parents' very first nest in the Shifting Expanse. While her older sister quickly left her clan's home and struck out on her own, Rosen remained, growing up alongside a guardian dragon named Norman whose egg her parents had adopted near the time of her own hatching.

Growing up, Rosen idolized her father and wanted to be a scientist like him. She followed him around the lair, from nest to lab to library, and he soon started teaching her to be his assistant and apprentice. She helped him experiment with many of her own siblings, nieces and nephews, as well as others her father found.

Because of his size and strength, Norman had freedom that Rosen herself did not. He went on missions for her father, bringing back eggs or materials he sought. In his travels he learned of the other gods and clans, and told Rosen all he learned. In secret, she and Norman discussed the philosophy and truth-seeking of the Lightweaver, and Rosen ached for it even as she continued to help her father with his experiments.

Eventually Rosen's father cast Norman out. Rosen hoped she would find him again some day in the Sunbeam Ruins.

When her father's experiments with plague energy on her mother nearly killed the small dragon, Rosen knew she had to do something. She petitioned the Stormcatcher for redress, and He saw fit to mutate her mother into a larger, more powerful dragon, ensuring she would not need to fear her mate any longer.

While grateful, Rosen knew she needed a new start. She thanked the Stormcatcher and led Kade and Edge north into the Sunbeam Ruins and searched for Norman, only to find that he had gone on to wander the whole of Sorenth with a clan of travellers. Disappointed but resolute, she petitioned the Lightweaver for a cave, that she and her clan might serve the light. She was granted this, and eventually earned the blessings of the Lightweaver as well as she worked to overcome the lessons of her upbringing.

She and her clan serve the Lightweaver now, seeing knowledge in enlightenment rather than in science.

Rosen is the leader of the Lightseeker Clan, a lightspeaker who collects information for the Lightweaver and listens for her wisdom.
Rowan is Rosen's mate. He is the clan's gardenmaster, keeping watch and encouraging the plants that grow around their lair.
Feather holds a spirit of fire and is the heart of the nest. He was the first dragon that Rosen and the others met when were establishing their clan in the ruins.

Yanagi and Sakura are Plagueborn twins who were hatched near the Scavengers' Nest and liked to visit the strange dragons there as hatchlings. As they grew, they were interested in travel, and Doxen saw a curiosity in them that reminded her of her daughter. She recommended they travel to meet Rosen, and as her mother had predicted, Rosen took to them immediately. Sakura is the nest's herbalist and Yanagi is its' apothecary; both are versed in the twin arts of healing and poisoning.
Edge is the nest's technologist, building with metals from steel to silicon.
Kade is a weaver and sewist, who makes clothing and linens for the nest as well as for trade.
Vahalani is one of Kade and Edge's hatchlings who has decided to stay with their clan. As a hatchling she was touched by Shadow in a way that burned away parts of her body and wings, and she studies in the hope of being healed.
Kukui is one of Rosen and Rowan's hatchlings who decided to stay with their clan. She is fascinated by the physics of shine and reflection, and collects stones and precious gems.
Sayanth first met the members of the Clan when Kade and Edge were searching for answers for their daughter, as he is an expert in shadow magic. He and Kakui eventually bonded and he is now a permanent member of the clan.

Abby and Lazuli are the most recent to come to the Clan. Norman found them hiding near the edge of the Shifting Expanse as the rogue cultivators passed through, and was surprised to learn they had escaped from a lab on the outskirts of Goldensparc, and they were as much machine as they were organic. Unsure how to help them, the cultivators brought them to Rosen, and since then Lazuli and Abby have been learning to make the most of their situation.

Rogue Cultivators

Cangse Sanren grew up as an orphan claimed by the Windsinger's daughter, but she eventually returned to the world to travel and learn. Wei Changze is her mate. When he met her, he left the nest where he had grown up to travel beside her. (Also, yes, she is a fandragon, shh.)

Norman found a place with these wandering cultivators after he was driven away by Jaxen. He and Rosen eventually found each other again and reconciled, though they're no longer as close as they were.

Shadow Laboratories

Jaxen is Rosen's father. Once an ambitious fae dragon and the proud head of a clan of Lightning dragons, Jaxen's experiments grew ever more dangerous and outlandish in his pursuit of science. His family and the other dragons who had sought shelter in his clan quickly learned to stay out of his way as best they could when he got a certain look in his eye... even his daughter's best friend, a guardian dragon who they had hatched alongside her, cringed before the goggles of the small but viciously intelligent fae.

Finally, however, he pushed himself too far. Plague-research he had begun using his mate as a guinea pig threatened her life, his own pursuit of mutation had driven him mad, and his daughter could wait no more. Broken, Jaxen gave up his daughter and watched her leave for the Sunbeam Ruins. His former mate set out on her own.

Alone, Jaxen wondered what he could do now. He'd gone too far, he'd lost everyone, but he couldn't just lay down and starve. He began working again, focusing on studying breed changes without inflicting them on dragons against their will. Slowly he realized that there were others he could help, and who wanted to work with him, and a new nest began to form. He says he's learned his lesson, and now the dragons who work with him only experiment on themselves, or with informed consent.

He won't make the same mistakes; that's not to say he might not make new ones, but at least he plans to make them worthwhile.

Scavengers' Nest

When Doxen finally left her mate, she made her way into the darkest places in Sornieth, seeking to hide from her past. Instead she found other dragons who had been reshaped against their will, or who had left unhappy nests, and she found herself the queen of a nest learning to find a future together instead of just fleeing the past. She is the leader of the Scavengers' Nest, though she refuses the title of Matriarch. She is determined to keep her new family safe.
